Talent Show Performance

Thursday, May 28th at 1pm this year’s Talent Show Performance will be in the school’s cafetorium. Everyone is welcomed. There will be NO night performance.

Student of the Month Assemblies

May 29th are the next Student of the Month Assemblies. Please note the times have been changed. K-3rd will start at 8:30am and grades 4th-8th start at 9:30am. All are welcomed!

Bond Oversight Committee Meeting

June 1st the the next Bond Oversight Committee Meeting starting at 6:00pm in the school library.

Reunion Planning Meeting

June 2nd at 6pm is the next Reunion Planning Meeting in the school library.

Volunteer Apreciation Dinner

June 3rd starting at 6pm our Volunteers for the year will be honored with a sit down dinner. Hope to see you all there!

Year End Dance

Friday, June 5th is the final year end dance for the 7th & 8th graders. The dance begins at 1:15pm.

Board Meeting

Tuesday, June 9th at 7pm is the next regularly scheduled Board Meeting. The meeting is open to the public.

All School Awards Assembly & Yearbook Dedication Ceremony

Wednesday, June 10th starting at 1pm is the All School Awards Assembly and Yearbook Dedication Ceremony. All Welcomed.

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

Thursday, June 11st starting at 5pm our 8th graders will begin their Promotion Ceremony. A farewell to our 8th graders as they go forward in life. Congratulations!!

Last Day of School

Friday, June 12th is the last day of school. The dismissal time is 11:30am. Have a safe and relaxing summer.  SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!

Somis Students are STARS!

Dear Students, Families, and Community,

 There is so much good new to share!  This year Somis Union School District had the largest gain in API of ALL the school districts in Ventura County.  We have increased our API by 62 points in just 2 years.  We are proud to be an 800 school with an API of 814!  This is a testament to the raised rigor of instruction and the hard work of our students and staff.  We have brought in new technology this summer with the addition of school-wide WiFi, iPads, new laptops, Apple TV, a new phone system, a new website, and a host of new Apps that will invigorate and accelerate the learning.  We provide full-day kindergarten. Transitional Kindergarten is in full swing and we now have a waiting list. A delicious and nutritious breakfast is provided every morning to all children at no cost. We have a dedicated music teacher and music instruction for all ages.  Through amazing teacher leadership we have implemented the Olweus Anti-bullying Program across all grade levels.  All of our classrooms are single grade level which means no combination classes.   Small class sizes of approximately 20 students assure individualized attention to academic and social needs.  We have an excellent after school program that provides academic support, recreational sports, and enrichment activities such as dance, music, language, arts and crafts, and cultural studies, all at no cost to the families.  Through fundraising and the generous donations of the Somis School Foundation our students enjoy many experiences outside of the regular school day such as Washington D.C. for the 8th graders, an overnight excursion to the Long Beach Aquarium for the 7th graders, 3-4 day Outdoor School for 6th grade students, a trip to the Rosebowl, museums, music programs, plays, and a host of enriching experiences for all grade levels.    Our mission is to provide a world class education that challenges our students to use their minds to the fullest potential, and to be responsible stewards of the 21st century.

With the support of our wonderful community, teaching staff, and local businesses, Somis Union School District passed their first G.O. Bond in the November 2012, election.  This bond is estimated to bring in $9 million.  In addition we applied for, and received, another $4.5million from the state to help us with new construction costs.  Serious talks have begun about building a new school to meet the needs of our 21st century learners.  Though we love our current school site and it has served us well for almost 90 years, upgrades would cost us over $10,000,000 and that is with no new construction.  We will continue to keep you posted as plans develop.

We are working hard at Somis to be the “School of Choice” by providing a top quality education in a small, caring, and supportive environment.   All of our teachers are highly qualified, experienced, caring, and dedicated to providing the optimum learning experience for your child.
